Presentation of the 2025 Dzung Tran Innovation Award

For many years, Dzung Tran, Class of ’81, has supported the Computer Systems Architecture track within the Computer Science and Digital Technology program at CentraleSupélec.

This year, the CentraleSupélec Foundation was pleased to present this award to a team of four students for their project, “Airbus Defect Detection in Rotor Composite Parts using AI.”

Proposed by Airbus Helicopters, this project aims to automate the detection of defects in a helicopter rotor component (the “Starflex”) using an AI model (YOLO). Given the lack of real data, the team used diffusion models to generate synthetic images of defects. An ingenious approach that has made it possible to achieve performance levels surpassing those of human operators, while reducing subjectivity and fatigue during inspections.

Congratulations to the winners: Guilherme Mertens de Andrade (2025), Nancy Abi Farah (2025), Lina Ben-Younes (2024), Martin Laurent (2024)

And a big thank you to Dzung Tran for his loyal support!
